Day 39: Sleep Matters

I'm taking a break from Duolingo to write this blog post. I'm in the top 3 of the Amethyst league with one day left, so that's obviously pretty exciting. I think if I spent more time listening to podcasts or watching movies in Spanish and less time playing on Duolingo, I would do much better. At one point, I finished Duolingo in Spanish, but they've since added a bunch of levels, so now I feel the need to get al the way through them again. I think I may soon get to a point where I just take the last-level test and finish it, but things like the subjunctive tense and weird verbs are really good for me to practice.

A N Y W A Y

Today, I rested. Like, I actually just slept most of the day. Now, I'm having a hard time falling asleep. Who knew?

Also, today I tried to buy tickets to go see a movie tomorrow. I don't mean to brag, but I'm pretty good at buying movie tickets. Going to watch movies by myself is one of my favorite expressions of my sometimes-hidden introvert. So, today, when I bought tickets, I was careful to choose a good time and get input on the right movie and all that jazz. Imagine my dismay when, after remembering to ask everyone if they preferred subtitles or Spanish-dubbed, I forgot to check which one I was buying and I bought tickets for the dubbed version! What a goofy goober. So, I emailed the theater to ask about exchanges and they said I could talk to them up to 30 minutes before the movie to cancel my tickets. So, I went ahead and bought the tickets for the subtitle version that started 30 minutes later.

We went to church (I'll circle back), then I came home and realized I hadn't gotten a confirmation email for the tickets, so I pulled back up the window in my browser....and I hadn't pushed the "confirm purchase" button, so it had timed out. Then, I pulled it back up and started over and couldn't find either of the showtimes. I checked my confirmation email and realized: I HAD DONE EVERYTHING FOR THE WRONG DAY. I bought the tickets, then tried to re-buy the tickets for Friday instead of Saturday.

So, now I dunno what to do about all of that mess. We'll figure it out tomorrow. Que verguenza. Que oso. Sigh.

Church was really nice today. Alejandro shared some great stuff on perspective and positivity and hard times. I felt encouraged and challenged. Matthew did great leading worship. After his songs, they asked him to play more, which he did, even though he hadn't prepared any more songs. So, respect that.

Afterwards, we went out to dinner at a local Costa Rican restaurant called Smashburger (/s). It was really good though, dang. They played bachata music, which always makes me think of Alexis, because the first time we danced together was bachata at our friends' wedding, almost two years ago.

Now, I'm home, regretting every movie-buying choice I've made in the last month and doing Duolingo at 2 AM. I think I'm gonna get up at 6 AM because I really like Matthew.

PRAYER PLEASE
-for our team and the WS team to work well together (they seem really legit)
-for good connections tomorrow
-for baptisms to happen
-for the gospel to be shared boldly and lovingly
-for our last few days here (so many last things)
-for this church to be blessed beyond measure
-for me to stay on top of things the next few days

Matthew
