Day 34: Not Wrong, Just Different
Mmmmmhm....stuff happened today. Lessee.
I got up early, but not as early as Matthew or James.
Matthew got up early and made the Gallo Pinto for our Father's Day Men's Breakfast Time Event Thing. The pinto was well received. The guys said Matthew was, "listo para casarse," which is like a Thing people say here when someone makes good food.
James shared at the time and it was really powerful. He shared some foundational paradigms and perspectives for the men. He talked about the importance of grace in our relationships as husbands and fathers. He shared that people are designed to encounter and overcome challenges and that we find joy in it, so not to be discouraged when challenges come. He shared about the freedom we have in Christ, and something in the way he shared just hit different. I... don't know how to explain it, but it was really powerful to think that I don't have to try so hard, but I can relax, be myself, and trust (and follow) God.
Afterwards, I had a l o n g conversation with the dad of one of the kids from the CDI. He talked about the government and culture and the pending collapse of society and kids-these-days and faith and Columbus and tattoos and fiscal responsibility and physical responsibility and.....really, a lot of things. I felt very tired at the end.
James, Lagos, y I went to the CDI and got some work done. We deep cleaned some fans and almost fixed a door and almost fixed another door and figured out how to improve some sinks and spackled a wall and organized some stuff. We also got to talk about life and James showed Lagos the new system he had set up for their survey data management.
We got to plan for this next week; figuring out things like: What do we do with the soon-to-come, non-communicative gringos? How do we transition towards local-student-led Bible study? Are hotdogs a bad choice? How do you talk to kids about respecting their parents through alcoholism? You know, the usual. It went well!
Don Rodrigo came over and brought us cake. Matthew went to go investigate a mariachi party. I made Lagos laugh with a pun. I feel sleepy.
PRAYER PLEASE
-for this last normal week to go well
-for our CDI times
-for our Bible Study
-for H@ngout
-for us to survive without Lagos and Ana Raquel
-for the devotionals at the CDI to land well
This one got a lot of views. That title was from some relationship advice James gave the married men about respecting different approaches spouses have to problems or questions or decisions. It's not advocating for moral relativism or anything, no worries ;D
