Day 64-65: Slipping

a.k.a. "if you aren't fully burned-out at the end of the race, you didn't run hard enough." -Track Coaches Everywhere

a.k.a. Dichotomies

Sorry I didn't write last night. I didn't want to. I had other priorities.

I'm slipping in my commitments here at the end. I'd like to blame it on being sick, but it's really just being Done. Don't fret, dear bloggeroos (and especially Bangaroos), I'm ok! Some of this will sound very tired, which is accurate. Some of this will sound fairly discouraged, which is accurate. But, if you read this as being defeatist or something like that, that is not accurate.

If I dig deep enough, I always find two emotions: Sadness The Ever-Present and Cheerfulness The Irrepressible. One of those is new, and I am grateful to God for it. It's strange, but very human, I think, to live as walking dichotomies. Current song is Crooked Ways by Propaganda.

Ok, um....

Day 64: Saturday

I was sick. We didn't really do much. I tried to run my 5 miles, but only made it 3 (yellow box). I have 3 runs left. One 5, one 5k, one 5.

I think at some point I may have run some kind of errand or walked somewhere, but I don't really remember. Matthew and Izzy were both gone most of the day. I napped in my room most of the day.

At some point, a guy named Chris from the Colorado team came and slept in our house for a while, then went with Katie to join the group and eat dinner. I still felt sick, so I stayed home.

I got to zoom and phone talk with Alexis, which was really nice. I think the impending soon-ness of being able to be back together makes everything easier and harder.

Chris stayed at our house last night, too, since his housing had some kind of complication.

Day 65: Today (Sunday)

I woke up today, feeling like a human being. I felt not sick. I felt pretty energized. I felt ready to adventure.

We found out that Lagos and the Colorado gringos were leaving in 10 minutes to go to Walmart for supplies and then drive to paint Grettel's house. Katie was sick, and Matthew didn't have enough time to get ready, so Izzy and I met them at Walmart just in time to saldo my phone and jump on their bus as they were leaving.

The Colorado gringos have a very good team vibe. It's a bunch of high-schoolers and their dads and Chris. They are a fun team and have a good willingness to serve. They'll be a big blessing to the church here this week. I mostly talked with the dads and napped.

We got there and Grettel y su esposo, Elias, put us to work. She is a character; loving and humble and tiny, but she runs the show around her. We painted and painted and painted. So much sweat. We took a lunch break. So much chicken! We second-coated it all and then Grettel shared her story of the church sharing Christ with her while she was the president of the prostitutes group here, and how he changed everything. Love it. Love it. Love it.

We rode back all tired and gross, but energized still. I napped more. The Colorado gringos fed us and made plans for the week and we figured out how our plans fit in with theirs. Now we need to make some more plans with H@ngout and AΓ±oranzas before we leave.

Lagos and Ana Raquel sent us back. We updated our team on what to expect for tomorrow (7:50 leave time!) and people drifted to their corners.

I got to talk more with Alexis tonight. Two nights in a row feels crazy and very blessy. Now, 4 nights left and then we'll talk again...in person!

I feel sick again, so that's not great.
