Day 32: I Don't Have an Interesting Title
Let me just start by saying:

I am always proud of myself. But, today, I am just extra pleased.
Anyway, I go stung by a bee today. I kinda deserved it. But, I have confirmed that I am not allergic to bees, I guess.
I woke up this morning at 6:48, so that I could get in a chill 2 miles (it feels nice to think of 2 miles as relaxing). However, given that it was 6:48 AM, I said, "nope." and went back to sleep until my regularly scheduled 7:20. Got up, changed shirts, added socks and shoes (sock, shoe; sock, shoe - obviously). We loaded up and headed to the CDI.
Today was a different kind of day than normal. I just today told a friend of mine that we have a pretty regular schedule here, but today was a little different. Two Factors:
1. We've been working on some Dia del Padre crafts with the kids. It's kinda sad, because, as mentioned, many of them do not have father figures or even good male role models (also, am now listening to No Role Modelz). Anyway, that takes about an hour and a half to get through for each crew.
2. Today was the World Cup Qualifying match between Costa Rica and New Zealand. So, if CR won, it meant they would be in the World Cup in November. If they lost, they would not get to go. The President of Costa Rica issued an executive order-type-thing that gave all Public Employees an extra hour on their lunch break, so that they could watch the game. That was a baller move, because people would have done it anyway, but this way it makes him look super supportive. Outstanding move.

We watched the game at the CDI as well. It was so fun to watch with the kids and to see Doña Maria y Georgen get hype for their country. There was a lot of yelling and dancing and jumping and hugging. Cars drove by the literal rest of the day waving Costa Rica flags out the window and honking like crazy. It was so cool. I've always been proud of Aggie spirit in College Station. But, I gotta be honest...I've never seen anything like that. (don't @ me, just be more excited for your team in the future "whoa Sam.")
All that meant that our schedule was wonky today. Also, many of the kids didn't come this morning that normally do. They didn't have school today either (I don't know if that was related to the partido, or the fact that they just took a bunch of tests).
A couple of our kids have had trouble making good choices lately. I hope our interactions with them in this space is staying heart-based and not just behavior control. (pray for us)
Our littlest ones had a hard time focusing during talking about Love, and our bigger kids in the second crew did pretty well. I'm still very excited for Thursday! (pray for us)
After the CDI, we were tired. Today felt longer than normal, probably due to the woobly schedule. We decided to order in dinner (#TacoTuesday, compadres). Matthew left for a while, Izzy and I walked to get drinks and dessert and some saldo for Katie's phone. Izzy saw a little panaderia on our way to the AM/PM, so we stopped there on the way back. The owner was really nice and gave us a free extra cookie. We talked to him for a while, and he kept looking at a lady behind us. Right before we paid, she said, "Did y'all say y'all were from Texas?" Turns out, she was born in California, moved to Costa Rica with family, went to medical school here, then did her residency in Houston. We talked for a while, then headed home (after paying, obvs).
Ate tacos. Ate brownies and cake. Katie and Izzy talked for a bit. I read in my room. Til We Have Faces still. I am having trouble putting it down; I'm now almost halfway through. Took a brief nap. Talked with Alexis a little bit. Killed the Wordle. Flirted with Alexis a little bit. Talked with Matthew for a little while. Did not flirt with Matthew.
I finally went for the run I have put off for two days now. I am allowed in my system to switch days between rest days and running days; the goal is total mileage, not any specific day. That allows me to have flexible scheduling with our friends here, and have an off day and be ok. It's like grace, but only a little bit. Two miles was indeed chill. I listened to Crowder's album, Milk and Honey. I felt pretty worshipful by the time my run was over. Had a sweet moment with God while I was stretching.
Came home, sat and cooled down. Showered. Now am blogging. Somehow, I keep finding myself awake late. Hang on, lemme Wordle it out. After starting with a win, maybe I'll end with being humbled. I only got the other one because it was such a Christian word (Alexis pointed this out) and I'm reading Til We Have Faces.
