Day 19 (12): It Was The Mom All Along!!!
Did you know that Costa Rica is not an island? There sees to be some general confusion about that; sometimes even from people we've talked to here that are visiting. It's in Central America, right on top of Panama (which is right on top of South America), and right below Nicaragua. Puerto Rico is an island in the Caribbean, just east of Hispaniola (Haiti/Dominican Republic).
Also, the capitol of Costa Rica is C.R. and the capitol of Puerto Rico is P.R. See what I did there? It's because I spelled it wrong the first time. Like a fool.
Now that we've cleared all that up, I want you to know that I had eggs for breakfast today. They were rather tasty. I didn't make them.
It was drizzly today, so we had our worship time inside our Airbnb. We missed the bus and got to the CDI later than I'd like, but it all worked out just fine (Pura vida).
We had a good time with the bigger kids today. I think I bonded more with Andres and with Justin and a little bit with Julian, who hasn't come much. We played Go Fish today, and I won, because I am better at Go Fish than some 9-year-olds who just learned how to play it. Suckers.
I led the Bible Study about the Jesus-washing-feet story. It's cool to dig back into stories and think about questions like, "why was Peter so hesitant to have Jesus wash his feet?" It's because he thought God was too good to serve him in that way. I also think it's because of the implications that Jesus draws out, that if the Master and Teacher does the jobs that no one else wants to do, the servants should follow suite. I wonder what things in my life I think God is too important to care about? I wonder what things in my life I think I am too important to care about?
We got on the "wrong bus" to get home, which took us by a store we needed to stop at and still got us really close. It's fun when God uses things like that to provide for us. If God didn't work through my mistakes, sometimes I think nothing would get done.
We had tacos tonight. Ana and Ingrid (Matthew's tutor) joined us. I kind of expected Ingrid either to be a college student or like a retired teacher, but she was my age. She has been talking a lot with Matthew this past year as he's practiced his Spanish. It's been effective; his Spanish is awesome. They've had some spiritual conversations, so I don't think she was surprised by us.
We ate and talked and talked and ate. It was a good time! As happens, our conversation circled to the spiritual and we talked about religion and spirituality and science and love and purpose and all that normal stuff that you talk about over tacos with strangers. Ingrid did a good job of being honest and engaged and receiving our very eager answers, lol. She stayed a lot longer than I think she had planned; which is a good sign. And, she went for a walk afterwards before heading home; which I think is a great sign. I hope and pray she connects with Ana (who did a great job making friends with her) and that God draws her into himself.
Afterwards we caught the tail end of some mystery movie with H@ngout, then watched a movie ourselves. Tomorrow, we thought we might could go to Justin's futbol game, but it's not open to the public.
PRAYER:
- for the conversations we had with Ingrid to remain in her heart and on her mind until she finds love and answers in Christ
- for continued connection between us and the kids at the CDI
- I'm scheming up some schemes for how to do some stuff here well, pray for it to work out
- for us to have a restful day tomorrow, but also productive
Pictures: I don't have any from today or from Costa Rica, but here's a cute picture of a fox from the internet:
