Day 18 (11): Feet Are Really Gross
That day count is total/small team. I think I said that earlier, but.
Matthew and I made breakfast this morning. I didn't sleep super well last night. I had a cool dream where I stopped a bank robbery and then they threw a big party to say thank you. I got in the elevator after the party to discover that different thieves had used the party as cover to rob the bank, and they shot me and I died in the elevator. I'd watch that movie.
Anyway. You probably have no use for that information. I don't either, except to say I didn't sleep very well. Breakfast was good though. I'm becoming quite good at cooking eggs. ...well, scrambled eggs. Matthew made Gallo Pinto again, which was rather tasty.
My heart was pretty quiet during worship today. I feel that way a lot. I definitely praise God a lot more than I worship him. I think the difference is heart involvement. Praise is good, worship is best. Maybe it's the difference between complimenting someone sincerely and doing so earnestly? But I think you know what I mean; you can say things that are true and that you believe, and you can really feel them anew and fresh. But worship was really good still. There's something special about singing to God. It stirs my heart to worship when it just wants to praise. I misplace my heart sometimes, but God seems to know where it is and know how to find it. Serving does it too. And gospel testimonies. I hope you have things that do that for your heart. Well, I think you do, so I guess I hope you find the things that do that for your heart and engage in them deliberately.
Ok, thanks. We planned out the day and headed to the CDI. Everything was pretty well set-up from Tuesday, so we tweaked it a little, ate lunch, and.....chilled. Sheryl prepped her DBS lesson (washing feet), Matthew prepped the music lesson and English review, Katie read a book, Sam threw a ball at the wall.
We had Ana, Georgen (CDI lady), Francini (H@ngout student) and Rachel (young woman from the folklorico dance team) all come to help us, which was SO exciting, and much needed. We had a lot of kids come today, and they were all super energized. We played games, and studied the Bible, and English and Music, and practiced Math, and played more...it was really fun. I went in tired, but I had a good amount of energy to engage with the kids today, praise God.
The kids responded well to our DBS time, though they were high energy. Also, no one wanted to be Jesus when they found out that today being Jesus meant washing feet. There's a whole lesson in that right there.
(no actual feet were actually washed in the acting out of this story)
Afterwards, we headed home on the bus. H@ngout got moved to a little earlier, so we ordered dinner rather than making it. We had Lebanese food, which was tasty. I actually did my Perspectives paper on the connections between the Levantine Bedouin peoples (includes Lebanon) and Latin America. There's some cool connections between the Middle East and Latin America that I hope God will use to bring the gospel.
H@ngout went well, though differently than expected. We had more people come, which has been our prayer for a little while now (thank you, Jesus, for answering prayers). We spent time together and played a drawing game (which I was terrible at, but Anthony thought I was funny, so that's good). Matthew shared an encouragement (in Spanish, like a boss) from Psalm 25 (which has been significant, consider reading it and praying it over our team and the church here). We also played the Deal Breaker game, which is always funny and a little awkward, but very College Ministy^TM (it just involves coming up with weird things to see if they'd be a deal breaker for an otherwise perfect relationship "Imagine you met the perfect girl, but she grew spaghetti for hair, deal breaker or no?"). The students enjoyed it.
Our team watched a weird movie together, but it had Antonio Banderas in it, so, automatically good. Now, it's bedtime.
PRAYER:
- for more and deeper connection between the CDI and H@ngout
- for good discipleship opportunities with Justin (oldest CDI kid)
- for continued health and safety for our team
- for God's Spirit to guide and empower the church here
- for my heart to learn to worship more and not settle for praise
- for your heart to do that, too
Pictures:
Well...you see...I didn't take many today, but here's some anyway:
It was really cute!
