Day 16 (9): The Usual...with a little extra bonding
Breakfast and worship and bus to the CDI like usual today. We did get out the door a little later than usual, but we got there with enough time and got everything set up and.....then.....no.....kids....came
For a pretty long time.
Then a kid came!
It was Saul. He's awesome. So, for a significant amount of time, we played around. He and I passed a ball back and forth about a billion times and laughed and were friends and stuff.
We decided to still do our Bible Study, and as soon as we finished reading the story (tear up the roof and lower a friend), Iker and Axel also showed up! So, we read the story again. Saul was all-too-ready to show off how well he knew it, so we had to direct the questions at the other kids to make sure they were engaging. We acted it out, like yesterday, and talked about what we learned from the story about God and people.
It was interesting watching the kids engage with questions. They gave answers that were true, but that didn't fit the story. It shows that they've had some education in religious stuff, and an awareness of the basics of the gospel. But our goal is to get them to think about what they're reading and to engage with who Jesus is.
We played a lot of uno today, but also did English and music and practiced reading, and learned a new game. Axel is really hard to get to engage with anything that involves him sitting still and learning. However, Matthew tried a new tactic for learning today, and Axel really engaged with the material. It. Was. Awesome.
After we got done at the CDI, we hurried home (we went about 30 minutes late) and Sheryl and Matthew made a tasty and healthy dinner and then we set up for H@ngout tonight.
H@ngout was us and the Lagos and 2 of their guys. It was a small group, but we had a good time. We played GarticPhone again, and my phone wouldn't show me the pictures I was drawing until after I finished them, so...they were rough. But, we had a lot of fun and got to share about what God is doing at the CDI and invite those guys to come. We'll see.
After H@ngout, we played around and hung out as a team, then tried to find caffeine, but the stores were all closed. We watched an episode (8?) of The Chosen.
Sorry for a pretty basic post today, its late and I am on the breakfast team tomorrow. I also didn't take pictures :o
PRAYER:
- for us to be able to connect well to the kids and to the students here
- for sustainable, long-term spiritual growth for both those groups
- for our team to have insight into what our role should be in everything happening here
- for Lagos to have a safe trip to Indiana; for his wedding teaching and MTD to go well
- for relationship with God to be the center of everything that happens here.
